ManyPets offers coverage for dogs and cats, including puppies and kittens, adult dogs and cats, and senior dogs and cats. What isn’t covered by ManyPets pet insurance?

Waiting periods

This is the brief period, beginning the day you purchase your insurance policy, when your pet's accidents and illnesses are not yet eligible for coverage. Once your pet is in your possession, the ManyPets waiting period goes into effect for a brief number of days after you purchase your policy. Waiting periods may vary by state due to relevant regulatory rules and changes; always refer to your own state’s policy wording.

Pre-existing conditions

Pre-existing conditions are conditions for which your pet was symptomatic, treated, or diagnosed before your pet insurance policy went into effect or during your waiting period. For some other companies, past conditions are permanently ineligible for coverage.

However, ManyPets will no longer consider most conditions to be pre-existing if your pet has been free of symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment for a certain amount of time—18 months in most states. (This time period can vary by state.)

Preventative care

The ManyPets Accident and Illness Policy does not cover routine or preventative care like checkups, dental cleanings, parasite prevention, or supplements.

However, ManyPets’ optional Wellness Plan is designed to reimburse you for these items. Learn more about Wellness!

What vets think about pet insurance

Unfortunately, unexpected veterinary costs do pop up, and the last thing you want to worry about is money when your focus should be on helping your pet feel better. The peace of mind that pet insurance provides is truly priceless.

Dr. Jennifer Coates, DVM

Hearing the words ‘they’re insured’ from a pet owner is such a relief to us as vets. It means we both know that the cost of treatment becomes a less significant factor in major medical decision making. Our choices get to be made primarily based on what we all agree is best for the pet.

Frequently asked questions

Everything else you may want to know about ManyPets claims.

What does ManyPets pet insurance cover?

Your ManyPets insurance policy reimburses approved claims for treatments related to accidents or illnesses. Covered items may include your pet’s medications, surgeries, hospitalizations, diagnostics, and more.

What doesn't ManyPets pet insurance cover?

Like other pet insurers, ManyPets doesn't cover pre-existing conditions. Our insurance policy also won't reimburse you for preventative care (though our Wellness Plan will). And unlike certain types of animal insurance, pet insurance generally won’t cover working animals. View our sample policies for a full list of exclusions.

When should I get pet insurance?

When your pet is still young! Get insurance early on to avoid any pre-existing condition exclusions.

What are pre-existing conditions and are they covered?

A pre-existing condition is any condition for which your pet was symptomatic, treated, or diagnosed before your policy went into effect, or during your waiting period. ManyPets will no longer consider most conditions to be pre-existing if your pet has been free of symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment for 18 months.

How do I know ManyPets is the right company for my pet?

Do your research! Get quotes from different providers and read their policy terms to learn what they cover. We’re confident you’ll land on ManyPets in the end.

Does ManyPets pet insurance cover regular or routine vet visits?

ManyPets insurance only covers vet costs related to accidents or illnesses.

However, ManyPets does offer an optional, non-insurance Wellness Plan, which can be purchased in addition to insurance. The plan reimburses routine and preventative care for pets, up to the plan's available limits.

Does ManyPets cover pets other than dogs and cats?

We’re focused on cats and dogs here at ManyPets.

How do I insure multiple pets?

Looking to insure multiple pets? If it's your first time signing up with ManyPets, just get a quote and begin the usual purchase process. After you’ve submitted the details for your first pet, you’ll see a spot on the next page where you can click “Add another pet.” Just click and repeat until you’ve added all your furry friends, each with their own unique policies.

What are waiting periods for pet insurance?

The "waiting period" starts the day after you buy your insurance policy.

Waiting periods vary by state:

  • In some states, a waiting period applies to illnesses

  • In other states, a waiting period applies to both illnesses and accidents

  • If you have a non-insurance Wellness plan, you can begin using benefits and submitting claims for reimbursement the day after you purchase your plan.

It's best to check your state's specific policy details.

Do I need to submit medical records?

We always request the last 18 months of your pet’s medical records with the first claim. After that, we’ll only request additional records if more information is needed to process the claim.

What is a pet insurance deductible?

Your deductible is an annual amount you must pay out of pocket on an approved claim — after your reimbursement level has been applied — before a claims payment is sent. We will always send an explanation of benefits on approved claims, and your policy provides a sample claim scenario if you’d like to take a look.

What is your pet insurance reimbursement level?

This is the percentage of your vet bill for which you’ll be reimbursed (after your deductible is met) for any approved claims. Informally, the word “co-pay” is sometimes used to indicate the percentage for which you’re responsible first on any approved claim. For instance, an 80% reimbursement level equates to a 20% co-pay for approved claims. (On official documents, ManyPets only refers to reimbursement level, not co-pay.)

How will I get paid for a pet insurance claim?

We’ll reimburse approved claims via direct deposit to your bank account or via check, your choice.

Can I go to any vet?

Yes! You can submit invoices for any licensed vet, including emergency clinics and specialists.

Is ManyPets pet insurance available in all 50 states?

Almost! ManyPets insurance is now available in 46 states + Washington, D.C., with plans to launch in more soon.

ManyPets insurance also remains active while you’re traveling within the US states, Washington, D.C., or Canada for up to 90 days.

Is pet insurance coverage the same in every state?

All ManyPets policies start out with the same Accident and Illness coverages, with just a few state variations due to regulations. And available policy selections – including deductible amount and reimbursement level – may vary by state as well.

Can I cancel my pet insurance policy at any time?

Yes, you can cancel your insurance policy at any time. You’ll still be responsible for the current month’s premium, but you won’t be billed after that. If you cancel within the first 30 days of your policy effective date (15 days in Pennsylvania), you’ll receive a full premium refund if you haven’t yet claimed.
