Want to give the gift of peace of mind?
You can do just that by buying a Pet Insurance Accident and Illness policy (and perhaps a Wellness Plan) for a friend or loved one.
But first, there are several things you should know about purchasing a policy as a gift for someone else.
Tell Us Where the Pet Lives — Not Where You Do
When you sign up for insurance on the ManyPets site, you’ll be asked to enter your zip code. But if you’re buying your policy for someone else, make sure you enter the zip code where the pet lives.
A pet’s location is a big factor in determining what the premium to cover that pet will be. In some cases, the pet’s location can even determine whether they’re eligible for coverage at all. If you provide the wrong zip code, you’ll have to update the policy before we can begin to consider covering the pet’s treatment.
There’s another issue at play as well: ManyPets is not currently available in some U.S. locations, although you don't need to memorize the list of spots we're available: When you enter the correct zip code of your giftee’s pet, our website will notify you if the pet’s location renders them ineligible for coverage. However, you won’t receive such a notification if you mistakenly enter a zip from a state where we’re active — and then we’ll have to cancel the policy once everything gets straightened out.
No one wants that!
Be Sure to Get the Pet’s Details Right
When we craft a pet’s policy and calculate your premium, every little detail is important. We take their age and breed into account. In the case of mixed breed dogs, we even take their weight into consideration.
Since this isn’t your pet, we wouldn’t be surprised if you had some gaps in your knowledge. So if you have any doubts whatsoever, make sure you consult with the pet parent first — better to spoil a surprise than to submit inaccurate information. Otherwise, you’ll need to update this information to prevent the policy from being invalidated.
Make Sure You Enter the Pet Parent's Name
During the payment phase of the quote-and-purchase process, you’ll be asked to enter a name and contact information. You may enter your own email address and phone number if you wish — that way you'll receive immediate confirmation of your purchase and you won't spoil the surprise.
However, make sure you enter the giftee’s name instead of your own. This way the policy will be in their name.
Assuming you've entered your own name and email address, just have the pet parent contact our customer support team shortly after you’ve made your purchase. Then we’ll make sure their email address and phone number become the primary contact info associated with the policy.
At this point, the pet parent will gain access to the My Account section of our site, as well as to emails and notifications. If you’d like, you may remain an authorized user on the account as well.
Our customer support team can be reached by phone at 1-888-978-5291, Mon-Fri: 9am-9pm EST; or Sat: 10am-6pm EST. We can also be reached by email at manyhelp@manypets.com.
Be Aware: The Pet Parent Can Make Updates and Purchases Without Your Permission
The giftee will have access to the My Account section of our site; they’ll need this access to submit and manage claims. But just FYI: This also means they’ll be able to purchase new products (like a Wellness Plan) without your say-so. So just make sure you’re both on the same page.
You’re Responsible for All Terms and Conditions
Among other things, this means that any mid-term adjustments or annual rate increases will be applied to your policy for as long as it’s active.
