If you’re looking for a place where your furry friend can run off some energy off-leash, look no further than Houston’s collection of dog-friendly parks. You’ll find no shortage of these spaces in the city, but these rank as some of the most beloved among pet owners.

This two-acre dog park in Buffalo Bayou Park has everything you need for a day out with your pooch: a swimming pond, shade structures, dog showers, benches, drinking fountains with spigots at dog-level, and plenty of space to run and play. The park is divided into areas for small and large dogs, so your pup can socialize with others of their own size. Parking is typically easy to find along Allen Parkway.

Levy Park Dog Park

Levy Park’s off-leash dog area may not be the biggest in Houston, but it proves that good things sometimes come in small packages. The park features dedicated areas for small and large dogs, each outfitted with turf-covered mounds, water features, and a double-gated entry. Plenty of shade trees keep things cool, even in summers. Hungry or thirsty pet parents can grab a bite to eat or a beer on tap from the Love Shack, the park’s burger joint.

Danny Jackson Family Dog Park

Help your dog beat the Texas heat with a visit to Danny Jackson Family Dog Park. The elongated area stretches along Westpark Drive with separate areas for small and large dogs. Each area features a dog lake and a water fountain, as well as benches and covered shelters. A dog wash station with hoses helps get your pup cleaned up before heading home.

EaDog Park

Best in EaDo

Address: 2300 Polk St

Website/Social: Website

EaDog Park recently opened as the first off-leash space for dogs in Houston’s east end. While it lacks the amenities of bigger dog parks, this small neighborhood park does have a gated fence, pickup bags, and a well-kept space for dogs to play. The park tends to be quiet, and the surrounded EaDo neighborhood is brimming with dog-friendly patios where you can relax with a drink before or after a visit to the park.

Millie Bush Dog Park

Best Park to Spread Out

Address: 16101 Westheimer Pkwy

Phone: (281) 496-2177

More info here.

Measuring a whopping 15 acres, this Texas-size dog park — the first dog park in Houston —offers tons to do for pups on Houston’s westside. Granite trails connect many of the park’s amenities: dog ponds, shade structures, water fountains, benches, fire hydrants, and a dog shower. The large dog area has two swimming ponds, while the spacious small dog area has a pond of its own. You’ll find it within the larger George Bush Park just off Westpark Tollway.
